Federal Foreign Language Competition

Like every year, there was once again the chance to take part in the Federal Foreign Language Competition, where students from grades six to twelve can participate in one of three categories: SOLO (from eight to ten), SOLO Plus (ten onwards), and TEAM (class six to ten). No matter which one, you always choose (at least) one foreign language in which you want to participate in the contest.

Together with Tony Hildebrandt and Leonie Diller, I participated in the category SOLO with the language English. After signing up, the first step was to create a video with the theme “What I always wanted to say.” How you converted this into a creative film was completely up to you, no bounds were set to your creativity.

After the first part, the competition continued on January 23rd. Beforehand, we got a specific English-speaking region that would be the main subject of the test, in our case “Northern England.” Prepared, we began the test at 9:00, starting with the creative writing part. Being given an image as inspiration, we had to write about a special and memorable trip to a city in Northern England, which tested our use of the English language. After that, the test continued with a gap-filling exercise, as well as a general quiz about Northern England, asking about famous monuments, history, and similar topics. With reading and listening comprehension, the test came to an end.

After waiting for our results, we were excited to find out that all of us were part of the best in Thuringia, and so we were invited to the award ceremony in Erfurt. Sadly, we could not attend it because it collided with our class trip. However, we still got our prizes, which is the amazing part about this competition. You do not only get to prove your skills in your favorite language, but you can also win a bunch of different awards!
